Macau Black Bears turned to their high-scoring trio of Tyree Javal Robinson, Mohamed Kone and Richard Scott Ewing in ripping Del Norte Banana Republic, 92-79, in the Asian Tournament Leg 2 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna on Friday.
Robinson had a double-double game, finishing with 31 points and 12 boards, but the solid support provided by Kone and Ewing proved to be essential in keeping the Black Bears’ three-pronged attack.
Kone flirted with a triple-double performance of 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a solid all-around game while Ewing was also a key contributor in the guard spot, tallying 17 markers on top of seven assists for the Black Bears, who improved their win-loss record to 4-1 to keep the lead in the Group A of the standings.
The Black Bears were able to pull off a win despite getting outrebounded by their rivals, but the biggest factor for Macau’s victory was its ability to translate Del Norte’s 19 miscues to 31 turnover points.
Former San Beda import Domnald Tankoua paced Del Norte with 22 markers as the team absorbed its third setback in five games.
Robinson felt he needs to keep ahold of the team to get the job the done.
“Instead of fighting against each other, we need to hold it together,” he added.
